What we’re studying
Christina Rossetti's "Remember" (1862) is a tender, quietly aching sonnet spoken by someone anticipating their own death, asking a loved one to remember them once they've "gone away" — before the poem turns, in its final lines, to a more selfless wish: that if remembering brings only sorrow, it is better for the loved one to forget and be happy. A staple of the IGCSE English Literature poetry anthology, it rewards close study of sonnet form, tone and Rossetti's gentle handling of love, loss and grief.
