The book we’re reading
The opening session of the literature exam-review course, combining drama and poetry revision. Students revisit J.B. Priestley's An Inspector Calls — reviewing its key themes of social responsibility, class and generational divide — and work through a past-paper question, anchored by a few well-chosen quotations to build exam-ready recall. The class then turns to poetry, reading Louis MacNeice's "Prayer Before Birth," an unborn child's plea against a corrupt and violent world, alongside Kipling's "If—" and its steady counsel on facing life with integrity. Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird is suggested as further reading to reinforce the shared themes of conscience and moral courage.
