What we’re studying
A practical exam-skills class that pairs efficient reading with comparison technique. Students learn to skim a text for its overall gist and scan it to locate specific detail fast — essential for finding evidence under time pressure — and put it to work in a timed exercise. The focus then turns to comparison: reading two travel/non-fiction anthology texts, Stanley Stewart's "In the Empire of Genghis Khan" and George Alagiah's "A Passage to Africa," side by side to see how each writer conveys an unfamiliar place and people, and how to structure a confident comparison of their language and methods.
