What we’re studying

The opening class of the IGCSE writing skills course, setting up the fundamentals students will build on all term. It introduces the range of non-fiction text types across Pearson Edexcel Specifications A and B, so students understand the forms they'll be reading and writing and how the two specs differ. A vocabulary lesson begins the term-long focus on precise, ambitious word choice, and a lively homophone game makes those easily-confused words (there/their/they're and friends) stick — a light, engaging start that still lays serious groundwork.

Class contents

  • Vocabulary: Lesson 1

  • Non-fiction text types — Specifications A and B (Pearson Edexcel)

  • Homophone "Silly Teapot" game
